Chapter helps with Mu Phi Epsilon-sponsored Buddy Walk
by Phillip Carter
On October 31, 2009, several Theta Upsilon brothers assisted Mu Phi Epsilon's Gamma Zeta Chapter with their Buddy Walk fundraiser, raising money for the National Down Syndrome Society. October was chosen as the month for the walks because of it’s place as National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Brothers helped serve by helping to prepare and serve food, operate audio equipment for the live performances, help with any miscellaneous tasks that were needed of them, and also took the opportunity to play with, get to know, and walk with the kids in attendance. Besides a hamburger and hot dog lunch the Walk involved a large inflatable jousting ring, a pumpkin pull, live music, and face painting. The event was originally planned to take place on the Quad at Delta State but inclement weather prompted a move to the Cleveland Park Commission's Willard Samuels Gymnasium. Through the help of local sponsors and a lot of hard work on the part of Mu Phi Epsilon and other volunteers they were able to raise a substantial amount of money for the NDSS. All in attendance seemed to have a great time, particularly those working.
